Dr. Aletta Bell

Dr. Aletta Bell

Dr. Aletta Bell is one of Calvary’s veteran missionaries. Born in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior while listening to Charles E. Fuller of the Old Fashioned Revival Hour. Calvary Memorial began supporting her in July of 1964 when she left for India as a medical doctor. She worked at the Prem Sewa Hospiral at Utraula until 1975. This was a 24-bed hospital for women, children and leprosy patients which was started by Dr. Bell in 1966. The hospital has expanded since.

Dr. Bell was also for many years the Senior Administrative Officer and Medical Superintendent at Duncan Hospital in Bihar, India. This was a training school for nurses and part of Dr. Bell’s work was counseling the Christian Staff and encouraging nationals to take up the leadership roles and responsibilities.

For some variety to add spice to life, in 1979 Dr. Bell joined a singing group of ten, whose purpose was to sing and testify for the Lord. Wherever she served, Dr. Bell earned the respect of the Indian men whose paths crossed her’s, even though she was a woman and single at that! Through the years she has served as the hands of the Lord in the healing of many bodies and souls, in the birth of many babies and the care of women, in the care of HIV patients, in the training of medical students, and in the planting of many churches. She has witnessed great progress made in the medical field and the spiritual lives of the people. Dr. Bell has also served as the community health coordinator for over 26 projects of her mission. God used Dr. Bell to travel the world and spread the vision of what could be done for Him in India. Many met her challenge and joined her; she herself mentored and trained many to do this work.
