Dear Calvary Family,
Please take a moment to watch this important video prepared by members of Calvary's One Humble VoiceOne Humble Voice is a group of individuals commissioned by the Elders to help our church and church leadership understand the impact of racial inequalities.

Deeply burdened by the reality of the disproportionate impact that COVID-19 is having on our black and brown communities, Kristina Bailey and Kimya Tuama invite us to join the conversation, pray for our neighbors, and support organizations working to serve those in need during this difficult time.

PRAY:
Join One Humble Voice in praying for our Chicago-land neighbors that are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, as well as our role and response.

SUPPORT BY THE HAND:
By the Hand has crafted virtual programming to make sure students in the program do not fall behind in this season. Staff work with students every day to make sure they complete their work, are fed, have all the materials they need, and are growing in their academic potential. Staff work with families to ensure their virtual and physical needs are met.

Funds given to By the Hand at https://bythehand.org/give/ will ensure the program will be able to serve these students and families in this difficult time.

SUPPORT CHICAGO DELIVERS:
Chicago Delivers is a partnership of local churches working together to provide food delivery and encourage vital social distancing in the South and West neighborhoods of Chicago during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Calvary Memorial Church recently became a Chicago Delivers Partner Church. To learn more and donate financially to Chicago Delivers, please visit https://chicagodelivers.org. Need more information? Watch Chicago Delivers' Video.

Thank you,
Pastor Jonathan Cummings & Pastor Manfred Karolyi

Join Us This Wednesday

Join us via Live Stream this Wednesday, May 13, at 7PM for the first in what is planned to be a series of Worship Night events. While presently unable to be with one another in person, we are grateful that we still have the opportunity to come together virtually to worship the Lord through music. Wherever you are, let us gather together in song, giving all glory and honor to our God.

This first event will feature hymns (both classic and modern) as well as choruses. Upcoming events will feature Bluegrass, Gospel, and Hillsong/Contemporary Worship. Invite your friends and family to join you for these special evenings.

Please note, this event will take place in lieu of our All Church Prayer Gathering on Wednesday, May 13.

A CALVARY ED TALKS EVENT

The weight of consistent anxiety can be especially difficult to overcome in our modern society. It hinders our ability to flourish in our lives. It can have severe consequences for our work, school, health, and relationships. We need support and resources for our mental health and wholeness now more than ever.

We invite you to join us for a special CalvaryEd Talks event next Sunday, May 17, at 7PM. Hear from Dr. Stephanie Griswold and Pastor Gerald Hiestand as we seek to bring together ancient wisdom and modern insights on this important topic.

Besetting anxiety has affected the lives of more and more people in our society, regardless of their age or background––children and teens, adults, and seniors. If you or someone you love is fighting this battle, we invite you to join us for this night of encouragement and insight.

Zoom Webinar details have been posted to the event page.

CALVARY BOOK CLUB

Join Calvary's Book Club in reading and discussing the children's literature classic, Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne. The next Zoom gathering will take place on Monday, May 18 at 7PM.

Zach Wagner writes: "I’ve been going through this with my three-year-old this month and let me just tell you that this is a genuine delight to read. There are legitimate laugh out loud moments, tons of wit, and deeper insight for children and adults than you may expect. It would only take you an hour or two to read in one sitting. I highly recommend giving it a go and joining us for some lighthearted discussion on May 18."

The Calvary Book Club meets the 3rd Monday of the month to discuss a book that both intellectually stimulates and challenges our faith. Attend every month or jump in when a particular book grabs your attention.

GOT ZOOM?

Over the last several weeks, many of us have had the opportunity to connect with one another using Zoom. While nothing beats being together in person, this technology allows us to continue to see each other's faces (only if you want) and hear from one another.

We want to ensure that everyone who would like to join in our Zoom gatherings is able to do so. Do you need assistance getting set up with Zoom? We have individuals who would be happy to help. Please reach out to Caroline Wittman to request Zoom assistance.
