COVID-19 Reopening Update

Following Pastor Jonathan's announcement last Sunday, Calvary is committed to staying connected, keeping our congregation and community healthy, and being a public witness to the community around us.

Check back in this Sunday where Jonathan will go into more detail as we start to open the building in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, you can access our Calvary Online page on our website for more information and links to our live stream.

resources on racial injustice

As our nation and our local communities continue to process the trauma and fallout from the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the ministry staff at Calvary desires to guide our congregation into conversations about racial injustice with a spirit of lament and gospel hope. For this reason, we have put together a list of resources on our website, including a podcast conversation with Pastor Eric Redmond, book recommendations, and articles.

Service opportunity

Austin Coming Together (ACT), in collaboration with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the City of Chicago, is hosting weekly “Pop-Up” food distribution events to provide access to a variety of healthy and nutritious foods, including fresh produce and shelf-stable items for residents of Austin.

This “Pop-Up” event takes place every Thursday at By The Hand Club For Kids  | 415 N. Laramie, Chicago

Please read the message from Pastor Manfred below:

Dear Calvary Family,

I want to thank our church community for the way some of you have been serving during the food distribution in Austin in partnership with "By the hand" and "Austin Coming Together during the past weeks. It has been a blessing to see some of you volunteering and caring for that community's needs.

Today I received an encouraging report from Shavion Scott from ACT, sharing her appreciation and gratitude for your commitment. I want to encourage you to take a moment to read her communication and also to learn how to continue serving in Austin in the coming weeks.

With Gratitude, Pastor Manfred Karolyi

"Words cannot express my gratitude for each and every one of you who have not only expressed interest but given of your time over the last six weeks to serve the residents of Austin. The families have been so grateful; some even brought to tears at your presence and the generosity you've shown."
To our volunteers, staff, partners, and supporters...Thank you!

As you all know, the need is still quite great. As such, we will be extending the Food Distribution schedule through this week (6/25) with additional dates slated for July and August (pending confirmation).
With your support, we were able to serve more than 5,500 households with nearly 400,000 lbs of food. That's outstanding!

We'd absolutely love to have you join us for future volunteer opportunities. If you're still interested and available, please sign up here.

REMINDERS

  • If you've already attended a volunteer training and orientation session, simply update your availability by completing our new registration form. The training and orientation is a one-time requirement.
  • Weekly Volunteer Reminder Emails go out on the Wednesday preceding that week's food distribution for all volunteers on that week's schedule. It will contain all of the details you need for that week, including the weather forecast.
  • Be sure to get in touch with me in advance should your availability change so that we can update our records and adjust accordingly.
  • You're welcome to share the volunteer registration form with your network and direct any related inquiries to me. I'd be happy to assist.

It's been a pleasure working with you all. Please continue to help us spread the word and look out for additional updates (and fliers) on our social media channels.

You all are amazing. See you again soon!"

GOT ZOOM?

During the last few months, many of us have had the opportunity to connect with one another using Zoom. While nothing beats being together in person, this technology allows us to continue to see each other's faces (only if you want) and hear from one another.

We want to ensure that everyone who would like to join in our Zoom gatherings is able to do so. Do you need assistance getting set up with Zoom? We have individuals who would be happy to help. Please reach out to Caroline Wittman to request Zoom assistance.
