John joined Sudan Interior Mission in 1949, serving faithfully in Niger (West Africa). Drawing on his farm background, he, among other things, establish a farm school, the purpose of which was to give the students 6 years of formal and Bible education as well as teach them improved farming methods. In 1977, John and Anne began to serve in the city of Zinder, Niger.  They were involved in hosting a guesthouse, chairing committees, visiting missions stations and trouble-shooting. They also taught Bible studies, engaged in personal evangelism, and planted churches. John went on to become the Serving in Missions (SIM) Acting Superintendent for the country. Upon retirement in 1988, John and Anne continued to be active in the Lord's service by helping those more elderly retirees. John also worked on editing and correcting manuscripts of the OT books translated from English to Hausa before publishing.

On December 20, 2016, at the age of 93, John went home to be with his Lord. He leaves a legacy of integrity, generosity, industry, prayerfulness, devotion to his family, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
