How has God brought you to where you are today?

We (Sarah and Jack) previously served with MCC in Guatemala as community development workers from 2001 to 2005. We spent the intervening twelve years in graduate school (where Jack received a MSW and PhD from the University of Chicago), serving as leaders in our church in Hyde Park, as leaders in Bible Study Fellowship, and in the children’s ministry at Calvary. We have also spent those years being shaped, molded, and prepared by God through experiences with poor and marginalized people and communities in Chicago.

What is God doing in your immediate context?

While in Guatemala, we plan to be active participants in our local church, teaching, leading, and learning as God leads. We will aim to accompany our partners and team members as both spiritual and practical shepherds, empowering them to listen and follow God's desire for his children to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him in their particular context for His glory.

How does your partnership with Calvary help you be more effective in your work?

MCC envisions communities worldwide in right relationship with God, one another and creation. Having Calvary walk alongside our family in this ministry of reconciliation expands the community of believers that are participating in the lives of those who suffer, expanding our capacities for solidarity and allowing God to mold us into a new humanity.
