It is our desire to honor and develop the following characteristics in our members:

Testimony

• Knowing Jesus as Savior
• Growing in personal disciplines (e.g., prayer, Bible study, personal worship)
• Walking in love with brothers and sisters in Christ
• Obeying the Word of God
• Showing positively and publicly what it means to live as a Christian

Commitment

• Attending assigned rehearsals, services, and concert events
• Attending worship services regularly at CMC even when I’m not involved in ministry
• Adjusting my schedule and priorities to accommodate ministry in balance with other life priorities
• Giving to the ministry at CMC (gifts and other resources)

Passion

• Loving God with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength
• Desiring the presence of God in my life and in corporate worship
• Loving to glorify God through music and other art forms
• Appreciating different worship and music styles
• Having and displaying a positive attitude
• Participating actively in worship

Ability

• Using the musical, technical, artistic and/or dramatic gifts God has given me
• Developing the musical, technical, artistic and/or dramatic gifts God has given me
• Serving others in humility and love

Many of these characteristics are “heart issues” between an individual and God. Where and when we can encourage development in these areas, we will seek to do so, with an eye toward “encouraging one another all the more as the day draws near.”

As a member of the Worship and Music Ministry, you will be accountable to the Pastor of Worship and Music, who is accountable to the Senior Pastor, who is accountable to the elders of the Church. The Pastor of Worship and Music and others in your area (e.g., worship leaders, assistant directors, choir officers) may offer you suggestions and instruction. The music ministry is extremely public and extremely team-oriented. Because of that, four things are expected of vocalists: (1) A positive public testimony, (2) Except for sudden illness, a sufficient notification of absence so that an appropriate substitute can be found and brought in to rehearsals, (3) An attitude of cooperation. (4) Demonstration of servanthood by participating in either Sanctuary Choir or Celebration Choir. Exceptions to this expectation based on other ministry involvement are made at the sole discretion of the Pastor of Worship and Music. (5) Platform attire that reflects modesty, appropriateness, and reverence. By filling out this application, you are indicating your wholehearted agreement with these and other policies set forth in the Music Ministry Handbook and you are willing to flexible as the Lord should lead the Music Ministry leadership to make adjustments to those policies.
