Women Mentoring Women
Ever wonder what a mentor is? Or, have you ever felt like YOU really needed one? Or could even BE one?
There is much in the Bible to commend women in the church to nurture younger women through the many stages of our walk of obedience to Jesus, our Lord. Following below are our beliefs and objectives regarding this ministry, as we believe is in accordance with Scripture. Program details are outlined to help acquaint you with the roles and responsibilities of both the mentor and mentored, and other relevant information. If you would like to participate in this ministry after perusing this information, please contact Women's Ministries via email regarding your interest.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT MENTORING
We believe that studying the Word, knowledge of the Word and obedience to the Word leads to solid, sound, rooted Christian lives.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing
the message, and the message is heard through
the word of Christ.”
(Rom 10:17, NIV)
We believe that accountability is important to a transparent life, so as not to hinder the will of god in our lives.
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
(James 5:16 NIV)
We believe that the Bible commands the mature Christian woman to disciple the newer Christian woman to a greater obedience to Christ in their walk.
“Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”
(Titus 2:3-5, NIV)
OUR GOALS
Our Goal is:
1. To develop a mature Christian, who is confident in the faithfulness of God, who is dependent on the Word, and alert to the leading of the Holy Spirit in her.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
(Heb 10:24-25, NIV)
2. To foster spiritual family relationships within the body of Christ that overcomes limitations of biological family relationships.
“Train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” (Titus 2:3-5, NIV)
3. To encourage each other to greater faith and
obedience to God.
“Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”
(Phil 2:12-13, NIV)
That you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. (Rom 1:12, NIV)
PROGRAM FEATURES
1. Mentors and Mentees commit to an initial 6-month partnership. This gives sufficient time for a meaningful relationship to develop. After this period, an evaluation is made, with all parties involved, to decide if a change in partnership is helpful or not.
A change in Mentor-Mentee partnership can be a
positive thing because we are able to learn different things from different people in life.
2. Mentoring partnerships are formally concluded at the end of a year, but may be extended another year if both Mentor and Mentee desire it.
3. Confidentiality is a key feature in the Mentor-Mentee relationship. It creates a safe environment for truthful and loving conversations to happen.
4. Each Mentoring partnership meets at least twice a month, and may schedule times convenient to both partners. Weekly contact is strongly encouraged.
5. A Mentor and Mentee is free to choose to do a Bible study, read a helpful book, or just meet for edifying conversation during their scheduled meetings.
6. A Mentor and Mentee are prayer partners for each other.
7. Women who desire to be Mentors must be a member of Calvary Memorial Church.
8. We recognize that there may be times when professional counseling may be necessary. A mentoring relationship may continue alongside professional counseling, and may be beneficial to foster greater spiritual growth.
