Leadership Meeting Updates

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Jan. 3, 2012)

  • The elders approved Dr. Kevin Hector to teach at Calvary.
  • Pastor Todd previewed the new sermon series “Real”.
  • The elders had a time of sharing Scripture verses of exhortation, followed by an extended time of prayer.

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Dec. 6, 2011)

  • Pastor Todd shared a devotional based on the hymn “Joy to the World”.  
  • The elders reviewed the ministry reports from the ministry staff. Stann Leff provided a financial update.
  • Pastor Todd spoke briefly on initial planning for a Calvary Centennial celebration in 2015. Pastor Caleb reported on the condition of our pipe organ.
  • The elders had a time of thanksgiving and prayer for the elders that are departing the elder board: Ron Kinzie, Jay Miller, and Reggie Winston.

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Nov. 15, 2011)

  • The elders reviewed the church discipline policy, with suggestions given for further revisions. Pastor Todd presented a white paper summary of his theology.
  • Pastor Gerald provided an overview of the vision and purpose of the SAET (Society for the Advancement of Ecclesial Theology), and the degree of involvement of some of the ministry staff.
  • Pastor Todd presented guiding principles and questions regarding Pastoral staff involved in publishing their writing.

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Nov. 1, 2011)

  • Pastor Todd opened the meeting with a devotional on “The Fight of Faith”.
  • Deaconess of Missions, Laura Lange gave an update providing an overview of the mission budget, Calvary missions priorities, and updates on a few of our missionaries.
  • Deacon of Prayer John Campbell gave a report looking back at the various prayer initiatives over the past year. The elders reviewed the revised membership application, and previewed the upcoming biannual business meeting.

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Oct. 18, 2011)

  • Pastor Todd shared a devotional from Galatians 6:6-10 and previewed his sermon for October 23rd based on this passage.
  • The elders then reviewed the completed 2012 budget and approved it.
  • Pastors Todd and Caleb provided an update on the “Unify to Glorify” plans. Pastor Caleb will share these at the November biannual business meeting.
  • A time of prayer followed, with a focus on Missions and Missionaries.
  • The elders then reviewed the ministry reports and previewed upcoming meeting dates.

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Oct. 4, 2011)

  • The elders had a time of giving words of appreciation for Pastor Todd.
  • Pastor Todd then shared a devotional based on Romans 11:33-36.
  • A time of prayer and praise followed.
  • The rest of the meeting was devoted to discussing the CMC Articles Of Faith and Pastor Todd’s ordination paper.

Summary of Leadership Meeting (Sept. 20, 2011)

  • The elders reviewed the ministry reports submitted by each of the ministry staff, followed by a time of prayer.
  • The recent “Mission of the Church” sermons were discussed.
  • Deaconess of Finances Virginia Wang presented the Finance Committee’s recommendation for the total 2012 church budget.
  • The policy for handling member requests to meet with the elders was approved.

Summary of the Leadership Meeting (Sept. 6, 2011)

  • Pastor Todd opened the meeting with a devotional based on Romans 1:1-6. The elders then had an extended time of prayer.
  • Pastor Todd provided an encouraging update on an Oak Park church planting initiative headed by Calvary member Cisco Cotto in association with the Evangelical Free Church. (Announcement of this will be given on Sunday, Sept. 11th)
  • The elders reviewed a draft policy for handling member requests to meet with the elder board. The draft will be finalized for approval at our next meeting September 20th.
  • Tentative scheduling was begun for elder involvement in the church wide prayer initiative, as well as the monthly “chat with the elders” meetings, the first one of which is Sept. 28th.
  • Finances were briefly discussed, with plans to announce a special fall offering, with the goal of balancing our 2011 budget.
