How has God brought you to where you are today?

God brought us (Ben and Karis) together as summer missionaries with Child Evangelism Fellowship when we were in high school in Missouri. We felt God’s call on our lives to reach children with the Gospel, so we attended Moody Bible Institute together. Not long after, we began attending church at Calvary. Through classes at Moody in the Urban Ministry program, and our own experiences in Chicago, God broke our hearts for the nearly 1 million children in Chicagoland who still have never heard the Gospel.

What is God doing in your immediate context?

We wear many hats, but each one points back to children being reached with the Gospel. Good News Clubs in public schools and in 5-Day Clubs in people’s backyards throughout the summer are the two primary of many ways CEF reaches kids with the Gospel. We run CEF’s teen training program called Christian Youth in Action, and lead a strategic new project called the HUB (Housing Urban ministry Building) in Maywood.

How does your partnership with Calvary help you be more effective in your work?

Without Calvary, we could not be in ministry. Our small group and weekly time with God’s people gives us the encouragement we need to continue our hectic schedule, and fight intense spiritual battles. Being part of a missions department at a church is paramount to increasing effectiveness and collaboration.

How can people stay connected with you and your ministry, e.g. email newsletter, blog, social media?

We send out bi-monthly letters that are delivered by the USPS. We would love to add anyone to our list, or you can visit our Facebook pages at or We also have a personal website:
