SHIRLEY ANNE JACOBS

Location: Rural Paraguay

Time of service: 1 year (Aug 2017-July 2018)

Agency: SIM (Serving in Mission)

How has God brought you to where you are today?

God has brought me to where I am today because of His continual faithfulness in my life. Since I was 12 years old, I have known God's specific call on my life to serve Him on the foreign mission field. Through the years, He has faithfully guided me in this direction and has led me to study at Moody Bible Institute and worship with Calvary these last four years. Upon graduation in May 2017, I was praying and looking for opportunities to step forward in obedience on the mission field. Though many other opportunities were closed, God opened the opportunity to serve with SIM in Paraguay. For this next year, I am living in rural Paraguay while teaching at a local school and leading a children's Bible club. God has made abundantly clear that this opportunity is of His leading, and I look forward to the possibility of continuing to serve with SIM and Calvary after this initial year.

What is God doing in your immediate context?

In my immediate context, God has opened the door to teach special education at a local school. As a result of teaching each day, I have met many children in the school and have begun a weekly Bible club for children in this community. Though there are few, if any, true followers of Christ in this community right now, God is visibly breaking down barriers and drawing people to Himself. For two years, another missionary family here has been plowing and sowing seeds of the Gospel. Now people are beginning to ask more questions, to assess their current beliefs, and to study the Bible with us. Just in the two months I have been here, I have already had many conversations about the Gospel and have seen firsthand peoples' thirst for Truth and Hope. It is exciting to see God working in this community, and I ask you to join me in praying that many will come to know and follow Him fully and personally.

How does your partnership with Calvary help you be more effective in your work?

My partnership with Calvary helps me be more effective in daily ministry because I know I am not alone. I know people are praying for me daily and are truly invested in the work God is doing here in Paraguay. On days when I am discouraged or need specific prayer, I am able to tell Calvary and know I will be joined in prayer at that moment. In addition, my partnership with Calvary provides accountability as I make decisions concerning my next step forward in ministry; I don't yet know how God is leading me after this year, but I know Calvary is beside me as I pray and discern His guidance. Calvary is not afraid to ask tough questions and to hold me accountable to the primary purpose of my life - not to teach or do good things but to share and display the Gospel to those who have never heard, regardless of the format through which that takes place.

How can people stay connected with you and your ministry, e.g. email newsletter, blog, social media?

People can stay connected with me by emailing if they would like to be added to my monthly prayer update.

I also have a Facebook page where I post more pictures and immediate prayer requests/updates - Partnering Together in Paraguay (first, send me friend request to be added).
